Environment

NORD IMPERIAL complies with all environmental laws and regulations. When we first constructed our facilities, we were conscious of the many existing large industrial enterprises in our hometown – Tomsk. That’s why we built our complex well outside and downwind of the city, 12km from the nearest residential communities, to ensure that NORD IMPERIAL has no negative impact on air quality in our community.

Our work on environmental responsibility has two focal points:

  •          Researching, developing and rolling out technology that is in line with the most up-to-date environmental standards; and

  •          Modernizing equipment at our existing facilities.

Here are just some examples of the work we’re doing to protect the environment:

  •          We installed two units (constructed by an Italian company Monsanto) to allow hydrogen release from flared gas, which enables us to reuse this byproduct as a primary component in our ammonia synthesis unit. 

  •          We maintain a state of the art mobile environmental laboratory, which enables us to promptly source and track any contamination

  •          Our biological treatment plant and sanitary-industrial laboratories enforce strict environmental standards. 

  •          In order to monitor air quality in our sanitary protection zone and industrial sites, our plant has installed an advanced automated mobile eco-laboratory.  The ecolab is accredited by the Federal Agency on Technical Regulation and Metrology of Russia and complies with the requirements of the Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring of Russia.

  •          Our basic measuring equipment is a highly sensitive infrared spectrometer, an interferometer МВ-100, controlled by a computer.  This device can automatically analyze ingredients of the atmospheric air every 2-4 minutes, using 20 components.  This method is 100-500 times faster than traditional methods of atmospheric air measurement. Our unique laboratory is often engaged by Tomsk City Hall to conduct measurements for the wider Tomsk area.

  •          Our ammonia production produces carbon dioxide as a waste product, but we do not release this into the atmosphere.  Instead, we reuse it in the synthesis of urea to produce liquid and carbonic acid and other products.

NORD IMPERIAL maintains its own biological treatment plants (BTPs), which purify wastewater not only for own facilities but also for the Komsomolsky District in our hometown of Tomsk and for Povolzhsky Village as well.  Before entering our BTPs, all wastewater undergoes preliminary treatment at nine separate local units on our main production floors, and is then mixed in a monitoring and preparation unit.  After biological treatment in our plants, wastewater is considered to be “treated to standard quality”. There are only two biological treatment plants in the Tomsk Region which ensure such a level of wastewater treatment.

To improve the disinfection system of the treated waste water, the company has equipped treatment plants with an advanced ultraviolet disinfection station thus eliminating chlorine from the process. Currently Nord Imperial is implementing a project for treatment plant upgrade in order to return up to one-third of waste water to production, and as a result to reduce the river water consumption.

Utes Health Resort

These are just some of the steps we’ve taken to look after our employees, their families and our communities:

  •        We built and maintain a medical unit, the Siniy Utes Health Resort, and a daycare center. 

  •        We have a program for developing residential property for our employees, which has already completed construction of several multi-apartment residential buildings. 

  •        Under our collective agreement, we provide a wide variety of social benefits, childcare provisions, retirement benefits, personal and professional training and development opportunities to our employees. 

  •        We offer significant initiatives to attract talent, including a one-time welcome payment to new employees of 8,000 rubles, a similar payment to employees who have been with us for two years, and a one-time payment of 14,000 rubles to those returning after military service. 

  •         We make special provisions to support families with children, including guaranteed subsidized places in our company day care centre, and discount vouchers to children’s health camps. 

  •        We have special provisions for our retired employees, including a small monthly payment for five years following their retirement, as well as a quarterly material assistance payment and a cash payment on special holidays such as the International Day of Older Persons and Chemists’ Day.

  •        Policies for expecting and new mothers include an additional month of prenatal leave, and an additional montly benefit to families with children under 3 years of age equal to the minimum wage.

  •       We provide considerable recreational opportunities to our employees. Those taking annual leave in the wintertime (from October to April) are granted an additional four days of paid leave. Those who choose to make use of our Siniy Utes Health Resort receive a 90% discount - a popular option.

NORD IMPERIAL is a socially responsible company and one of the largest taxpayers in the Tomsk region.

Nord Imperial LLC has been steadily implementing long-term social responsibility program by providing charity and sponsorship assistance in the Tomsk and Tomsk regions, as well as other regions where it operates, in four key areas:

1.       Social initiatives

Nord Imperial is largely focused on social infrastructure support, particularly in the city’s Komsomolsky district, which is home to most of its employees. NORD IMPERIAL provides assistance in the development of social and healthcare facilities, supports underprivileged citizens and contributes to the favourable social environment in the city, on a regular basis.

NORD IMPERIAL implements projects designed to improve social environment in cooperation with the following partners:

  •         Viktoriya Rehabilitiation Center

2.       Cultural and education projects

Nord Imperial enhances support of cultural and educational projects and promoting the development of musical and theatrical art in Tomsk on an annual basis. NORD IMPERIAL initiates its own cultural and educational projects by attracting federal and regional partners.

In 2000, NORD IMPERIAL opened its own House of Culture, which is now the city’s major leisure center and key cultural, sporting and educational venue.

3.       The development of sports culture and promotion of healthy lifestyle

The important NORD IMPERIAL projects include children and youth sports promotion in cooperation with the Basketball Federation of the Tomsk Region, sports infrastructure development and support of mass sporting events.  

4.       Regional environmental care

Conservation, protection and reducing environmental impact is our responsibility. NORD IMPERIAL allocates significant funds for environmental measures and implementation of environmental initiatives and events, held to restore the eco-balance in the region, on an annual basis.
